MOTION STUDENT MINISTRY STARTS STRONG AMIDST CHAOTIC FALL

By Michael Wright

We’ve had a great start to the year here at Motion Students! While our initial kickoff in September got rained out, we came back the next week and haven’t looked back. This fall, we are focusing on embodying the way Jesus interacted with people. John 1:14 says that "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

We see throughout the gospels evidence of His perfect grace-and-truth-filled love. Jesus meets people where they are at with compassion and understanding, and He helps people see where their hearts are at and calls them into better ways of living. This semester, we are taking a deeper look at who we are, how we interact with people, and how we can move towards Jesus! Ultimately, all of this is moving towards us learning to love people fully like He did-with grace and truth.

We also have lots of cause for celebration! It’s been nice to see lots of students coming consistently over the past month to MIDWEEK. Even better, there have been lots of new students who have joined us this fall! It’s been so fun to meet new students and to see them grow as they come back. In the midst of all of the unrest and uncertainty, it’s encouraging to see more students helping create a community that anyone can be a part of here at Motion. It’s crazy at times, but it’s also really fun! Sundays are not left out either. On Sundays, we have had some high schoolers come to join in a time of simple life discussion, coffee consumption, and Scripture reflection.

Lastly, I’d like to take a moment to thank parents for their trust in this ministry. We are doing our best to create a safe environment where students can continue to move closer to Jesus and closer to each other-even as we maintain safe distances (and wash hands and wear masks and all of those fun things). We are continuing to monitor everything and take precautions to ensure we can continue to meet in person while being as safe as possible.

As you feel comfortable, keep bringing your students and inviting others to join in! What is being created here is something special, and I’m excited and humbled to be a part of the stories that are being written. I can’t wait to see the work God continues to do in and through our Motion Students here at Friedens.
