Life Hacks: Wisdom from Proverbs

People today are searching for wisdom. We want help navigating relationships, anger, money, romance, decision-making, purpose, and more. The internet offers endless advice on these topics. Social media is full of influencers, experts, podcasts, articles, and videos, all telling us how to live our best lives. Some of that advice is helpful. Some is not. How do we know which voices to trust? What do we do when one source says one thing while another promotes the exact opposite?

One popular form of advice online is called a “life hack.” A life hack is a simple solution to a common problem – a practical tip meant to make life work better.

This summer at Friedens Church, we will explore God’s wisdom for everyday life in a new sermon series called Life Hacks: Wisdom from Proverbs. The book of Proverbs is full of practical, timeless wisdom from God for real-life situations. Its insights are just as relevant today as when they were written.

The topics this series will tackle are not just “church questions.” They are human questions. That’s one reason Proverbs connects so powerfully with people from all kinds of backgrounds.

This series is designed to be practical, understandable, and relevant whether someone has followed Jesus for decades or is simply curious about faith. So if a particular topic makes you think of a friend, coworker, neighbor, or family member, invite them to join us!

Here is a tentative schedule for the series.

• June 7 – “How do I choose the right friends?”

• June 14 – “How do I speak life, not death?”

• June 21 – “How do I control my anger?”

• June 28 – “How do I keep my pride in check?”

• July 12 – “How do I keep money from controlling me?”

• July 26 – “How do I handle sexual temptation?”

• August 2 – “How do I trust God when my plans fall apart?”

• August 9 – “How do I keep growing in maturity?”

• August 23 – “How do I become an encourager?”

• September 6 – “How do I overcome procrastination?”
