Scar Tissue
In II Samuel 12:24-25, the Bible tells us that after repenting of a terrible sin, "David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and lay with her. She gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon (which means Peaceful). The LORD loved him; and because the LORD loved him, he sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah (which means Beloved of the Lord)."
Bad things happen in our lives. Sometimes those things are the result of sin committed by us, as in the case of David and Bathsheba. Sometimes they happen because someone else has sinned and we get caught in the crossfire, as in the case of their children. These experiences often leave scar tissue on our souls. That causes hardness of heart and spiritual numbness. To restore life to the scarred tissue of our souls requires assistance from others. Some wounds have to be reopened. Some scar tissue cleared away. Some rehabilitation of the soul may be required. God uses others to help accomplish that, especially those who themselves have endured the hurts of life. Jesus, for instance, told Peter that after he recovered from his trials that he was to "strengthen your brothers" (Luke 22:32) and "feed my sheep" (John 21:18). God is always ready to "send word" of his love through us to help achieve such an end. Is there anyone – at work, in your neighborhood, in your family – you can reassure of God's love today?
