A Blizzard of Scripture
In recognition of the great blizzard of 2005 (so far), here are some verses from the Bible to mark the event:
- God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, "Fall on the Earth," and to the rain shower, "Be a mighty downpour." So that all men he has made may know his work, he stops every man from his labor. (Job 37:5-7)
- Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. (Psalm 51:7)
- It was you who set all the boundaries of the Earth; you made both summer and winter. (Psalm 74:17)
- He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes. (Psalm 147:16)
- "Come now, let us reason together," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." (Isaiah 1:18)
- As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the Earth, and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth; It will not return to me empty, but accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10-11)
- So let us know; let us press on to know the Lord. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the Earth. (Hosea 6:3)
Go Beyond Belief, to Conviction
Parents, mark 7 to 10 p.m., Feb. 17, on your calendar and plan on attending the "Why Belief Matters" seminar at Elmbrook Church, featuring world famous Christian speaker Josh McDowell. Learn along with other Friedens parents how to correct your young people's distorted beliefs and raise up a generation of transformed followers of Christ from within your own home who know why they believe what they believe. Talk to Pastor Kato for more information or call the church office at 284-2471.
Are You on a Mission From God?
All Christians are missionaries, their mission being to shine God's love into the lives of the lost and needy. Some Friedens family members are taking an extra step this summer to achieve that purpose by joining in short-term mission trips. Several young adults and others will be going to Poland for two weeks to help missionaries Jack Stockdale and Sasha Zubenko reach out to Polish college students. Tentative dates are June 28 to July 12. Talk to Theresa Zahurance for more information. The high school-age folks will be helping rehab houses in Muskegon, Mich., July 31-Aug. 6. Talk to Pastor Kato for more information.
Youth Winter Retreat
Join with Friedens' Blaze high school group for its annual winter retreat the weekend of Jan. 28-30 to Camp Zion in Door County. Cost is $50, but scholarships are available. It's OK to invite a friend or to come even if you've never attended a Blaze event. Call Pastor Kato at 284-2471 for more information.

The Men's Ministry group will be frying up brats and burgers next Sunday between services and after the 10:30 a.m. service to raise money for the men's fall retreat. There'll be chips and soda too. You can eat the goodies at the church or take them home.
Hurry Up And Pray
It's important to wait for God's power, says Max Lucado.
Child of Sorrow... Child of Peace
Have you ever had an abortion? Do you know someone who has? "Peggie's Place" offers an online devotional that assures that an aborted child is with Jesus where he is "safe in His arms, accepted in His fold and loved in His care." This devotional also is appropriate for women contemplating an abortion. There are pro-life links as well offering information, comfort, help and healing online.
Tough Questions, Honest Answers
- "How can Christians say that Jesus is the only way to God?"
- "Where is it in the Bible that Jesus claimed to be God?"
- "How can I be sure the Bible is really the Word of God?"
- "How can you believe a Bible that is full of contradictions?"
Have you ever been asked those questions? Or maybe you've asked them yourself? A website from Campus Crusade can help.
