Limping Along with The Father

"When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip … and he was limping because of his hip. " (Genesis 32) Jacob got in an all-night wrestling match with God and won. You'd think he wouldn't have a chance (perhaps God let him win. :). They wrestled because Jacob was at the end of his rope. His brother Esau was coming with 400 men to wipe out him, his wives, children and all his possessions. All the trickery and scheming he had relied on all his life wasn't going to help him. He needed God to help him, to bless him. He was open and honest about his neediness and he wouldn't let go of God until he got that blessing. And when he got the blessing he was transformed. He got a new name - Israel, which means he who struggles with God - and a dislocated hip, on which he limped around all his life, following God. Everyone who walks with God, walks with a limp. Have you wrestled with God?
