Playing Piggy Back
"Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders." (Deuteronomy 33:12) There are lots of things to worry about, aren't there. It's good to know that our heavenly Father is always ready to lift us up out of those worries for a quick piggy-back ride.
Big-Screen 'Passion'
If you or someone you know missed the movie, "The Passion of the Christ," on the big screen, well here's your chance. "Passion" will be shown in Fellowship Hall at Friedens at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3. Admission is free. Bring a friend. A discussion group on the film will start the following Sunday. Call Dave or Karen Wetzel at 285-3255 for more information.
Growth Groups Keep Growing
Friedens members are participating in various Growth Groups around the county. These include a group on building strong families that meet on Friday nights, groups for teenagers, groups studying Rick Warren's book "The Purpose-Driven Life," a fellowship and discussion group for young adults group and Pastor Don's Discipleship Groups that meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, day and night. Those are in addition to the groups that meet Sunday morning. Call Pastor Don at 284-2471 for a complete list.
Help for Russia
An organization that works to plant churches in Russia says the recent school hostage crisis there has prompted many in the U.S. to offer assistance. The Illinois-based ministry has established a fund to assist children and families affected by the recent terrorist attack. Go to http://www.russian-ministries.org/fs_start.htm.
It's All About Who?
"In our worship, we congratulate God on how well God is meeting our needs. When we say, 'You're such a good God,' it sometimes sounds like comforting words spoken to a pet." http://www.christianitytoday.com/leaders/newsletter/2004/cln40830.html.
Study the Land of Narnia
Speaking of studying books online, Borders University is offering a chance for fans of C. S. Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia" to study the books online. The course, taught by a literature professor from Bowling Green University, is free and will look at the key themes, images, characters, and life lessons that can be drawn from this best-selling series. Deadline for registering is the end of September. Register here
Online Book Summaries
With more books on the Christian market than one could possibly read, there's help for those who don't know where to turn. Go to http://www.christianbooksummaries.com for summaries of today's titles. Each summary is about eight pages and can be downloaded for free. There is no obligation to buy a book.
