Better Late than Never
"Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did - with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses." (2 Kings 23:25) What an amazing epitaph. Of all the kings who ever lived, there never was anyone who loved and obeyed the Lord like Josiah. What's even more amazing, is that Josiah earned the epitaph only after he was an adult and realized just how sinful he was and how sinful his countrymen were. Once he learned the Lord's will, he wasted no time in making the necessary corrections in his own life and the life of his people. And God blessed him. Perhaps, you're in the middle of your life and perhaps you're learning that you haven't always done things God's way - in the way you raise your family, parent your children, treat your spouse, or conduct yourself at work or among friends. Be like Josiah. Turn to the Lord, who loves you and only wants your best, and start to do the right thing today. You can read Josiah's story beginning here.
Awana Almost Here
This fall's Awana program is almost here. It starts Sept. 8. If your children - age 4 through 6th grade -- have never been involved in Awana before, please consider enrolling them this year. It's loads of fund with lots of games, opportunities to earn merit badges, learn about God's love and enjoy a weekly time with other children from the community. Also invite the children of friends and family to join. They don't have to attend Friedens to participate in Awana. For more information, call Geralynn Esselman at 284-9598 or call the church office for more information, 284-2472.
Tract Packs Are Back
Check out the information center in the church lobby and grab a "tract pack." Each pack contains a church business card, a Gospel of John and five pamphlets a week's worth that share the Gospel in a gentle and non-threatening fashion. Use the materials as helpful tools to share the Gospel with friends and family or to invite people to church. Each item contains Friedens contact information.
Leaving Soon For College?
If so, let the church office know so your picture can be included in the upcoming church directory, to get help finding a good church to fellowship with while you are at school, and to drop off your new address so members of the Friedens family can stay in touch. Call the church office at 284-2471.
Missions Bank On It
The recent Missions Fair Banks fundraising collected nearly $2,600. If you have a missions bank and haven't turned it in yet, please try to do so by Aug. 31 so the money can go out with the next mission support checks. If you'd like your donation to go to a particular missionary, please designate that on the bank. If you'd like to continue using the missionary banks on an ongoing basis, please do. Contact Kathy Kato at 268-6999.
Christian Education Get Involved
Volunteers and others interested in Sunday morning Christian ministry are invited to a curriculum workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at church. Blaze, Lock-In
Blaze, Friedens' teen program, will have one last humongous, blow-out fling Aug. 27 and 28 - a lock-in at the church 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. You just need to bring yourself, your friends, a good appetite and a sleeping bag. Call Pastor Kato for more information. Also, plan on attending the Blaze fall kick-off cook-out on Sept. 12 at Jesse and Nancy Mueller's house in Grafton.
God Is Calling
God calls all Christians, not just full-time pastors or missionaries. A more than cursory reading of the Bible shows that every Christian is "sent," every Christian is a missionary to their school, their workplace, their neighborhood, their community and their home. "Christians will never win the war for the soul of American culture if most believers think only the 'reverends' are called to fight the battles." Are you waiting to be called to be a missionary? If you are a Christian, you already have been called. Read more
