Service is Great
"The one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant." (Luke 22:26). Do you want to live a life that means something, a life that will have an impact on your world? Then take note of what Jesus told his disciples. The "greatest" person referred to here is megas, that is a giant, huge, of tremendous impact, like a meteorite that falls from the sky. One develops a life like that by being a child servant, by considering others as more important. How does one behave like a leader, literally the one who leads the charge, according to Jesus? He becomes a servant, who gives up his "rights" to serve the needs of others. He leads the charge in terms of service, not in giving orders. What changes do we need to make in our lives today to become more childlike, to become more sacrificial, to become more like Christ?
Couples Study to Start
A study group for couples is forming. The "Home Builders" small group series will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, at Cliff and Pam Landon's house, 1418 Maple Court in Port Washington. There is a limit of five couples so call the Landons at 284-5916 to sign up. If you're interested in hosting your own group, call Pastor Don at church, 284-2471.
Spiritual Intimacy
Spiritual intimacy is crucial if Christian couples are going to experience all the blessings God intends, yet too often it is the one thing Christian marriages lack, writes Gary Chapman. Read his article
How Does God Feel About You?
If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If he had a wallet, your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning. Whenever you want to talk, he'll listen. So how do you think feels about you? Read more from Max Lucado
Dateless in Christianville
One dilemma facing singles in the church can be described in the age-old adage, "A good man is hard to find."
Popular Culture
British Anglican Minister G.P. Taylor has written a bestseller in the Harry Potter genre, called "Shadowmancer," and has signed a mega-deal to turn it into a movie. In an interview, he talks about how his Christianity influenced his writing and how he hopes his writing influences young readers. Read the interview
