Service is a Choice
"Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Matthew 20:26-28) The path to spiritual maturity and fulfillment is the same rough road trod by the Savior - service. A growing Christian must be willing to give up his rights, to put the needs of others above his own, as Christ did for you. He "did not consider equality with God something to be held on to, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant" and "humbled himself and became obedient to death even death on a cross!" (Philippians 2:6-8). Just as Christ chose to serve, so we are called to make the right choices, moment by moment, day by day. Are you making the choices today necessary to live like a servant?.
Baptism
Have you made a public profession of your faith in Christ through adult baptism? If not, here's a your chance. Plan on attending an informational meeting on Sunday, Aug. 8, after worship and then be baptized on Aug. 15 after worship at Gary and Doris Schlenvogt's home. Talk to one of the pastors for more information.
Faking Church
Do we really want to serve Godor is it more rewarding to just look the part?
Must-Visit Websites
Dean of Blogs4God has compiled a list of what he considers essential websites for his Christian students. The list covers a wide range of topics and types of sites. See the list
God Exists: An Engineer Tells Why
For an intellectually-stimulating mix of theology and science from a Christian perspective, read the online 16-chapter book, "God Exists: An Engineer Tells Why." Author Peter Soszek, a Christian engineer, tries from a logical and scientific viewpoint to help readers come to believe in the existence of God. It looks at mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and astronomy. Go to, http://www.mts.net/~pekored/.
Real Faith, Real Life
The easy temptation for Christians is to separate our lives into two parts: career, which is public; and our faith, which is private. But considering how much of our lives is spent engaged in our careers, perhaps that is the ideal place to grow in our relationship with Christ. Can you identify with these common arenas where your faith meets life? http://www.crosswalk.com/faith/1149402.html.
