Perhaps
Pastor Mark recently commented that it's a myth that "God doesn't give us more than you can handle." He pointed out that God always wants to give us more than we can handle so that we learn to trust in him. He also wants us to take the first step, the step of faith, in taking on those life challenges, to make grand attempts, to climb higher, to aspire to do great things for his glory. Perhaps, God wants you to do something great today, something greater than you ever thought you could do; something more than you can handle. Perhaps.
PERHAPS (I Samuel 14:6-7)
"Perhaps," I thought, "perhaps."
Perhaps, I could sling a stone and bring the giant down.
Perhaps, I could walk on water and never fear I'd drown.Perhaps, I could cast the mountain deep into the sea,
the mountain that blocks my path, the one laid out for me.Perhaps, my Lord will hear my prayer,
and do the deed, if I would dare."Do all that you have in mind," in a fervent whisper I am told.
And my faith expands at the words, "I AM with you, heart and soul."
Young Adult Ministry
A number of post-high schoolers, home-for-the-summer college students and 20-somethings-and-slightly-beyond members of the Friedens family are planning a number of get-togethers for the rest of the summer for folks in their age group. These events are meant as opportunities to enjoy each other, whether single or married. These include: July 10, Lifest in Oshkosh; July 17, outreach to University of Illinois-Chicago; July 23, Port Summer Theater's performance of "Music Man" at 8 p.m.; July 30 volleyball cookout at Lower Lake Park; Aug. 20 progressive dinner. For more information, or to suggest other ideas, talk to Pastor Kato at 284-2471 or Bridget Huston. If you need child care let Pastor Kato know.
Blaze on Rescue Mission
Friedens' teen group, Blaze, will take their show on the road July 21-23 by a taking a team to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, to primarily in helping with the recreation time for K-6th grade children and serving at Joy House for women and children on Friday. Blaze also will serve dinner to Rescue Mission guests on July 22. Call Doug and Marci Ferrell at 375-1009 for more information.
Praying by 'The Book'
"Learning the prayers of the Bible affects how we praise God in prayer and the way we intercede for ourselves and others. It will transform our praying," writes D.A. Carson. Do you know how to pray "by the Book." Read his article, "The Summer I Learned to Pray," online.
