Live in the Present (Mike Sherman Part I)
Green Bay Packers Coach Mike Sherman recently addressed a group of businessmen at Concordia University in Mequon. His topic was "Instilling Leadership, Character and Values: A Business Perspective." "Integrity and success are measured in every aspect of life," he said. "You can't be considered a success if you are only successful in business but a failure at home." One of his rules for becoming a better man was to live in the present, don't hang onto the past, an area with which he admitted he has difficulty. A daily application included his relationship with his wife: "When you're with your wife, don't be at the office," he said. And stop beating yourself up for past mistakes or missed opportunities. "Live in the present, learn from the past, plan for the future," he said. This was a priority for the Apostle Paul, as well: "One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on." (Philippians 3:13-14). Next week, another success tip from Mike Sherman.

With Your Permission
"When to Talk, When to Walk" by Michael L Simpson (NexGen Books; ISBN 0-7814-3908-6) discusses the concept of "permission evangelism," an approach that aims to lead people into giving Christians permission to offer progressively more information about the Gospel in an appropriate way a gentle step-by-step process, rather than dumping a heavy lump of preachy concrete on a person. The book is available from bookstores and mail-order outlets, including Amazon. Read the first chapter online.
