Look Back, Look Forward
Have you ever felt that God was someplace else, perhaps busy attending to somebody else's problems while you languish among your own worries? You're not the only one. "We are given no miraculous signs; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be," the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 73:9. What did he do? He remembered what the Lord had done in the past "But you, O God, are my king from of old" (vs. 12) and he looked forward "The poor and needy will praise your name" (vs. 21). Has God ever acted on your behalf in the past? Has he promised to do so in the future? The answer to both questions is, "Yes, of course!" Now that's something to think about, because He himself said, "I will never leave you; I will never let you down." (Deuteronomy 31:6; Hebrews 13:5).
Ministry Fair Is May 23
Don't sit on the sidelines. Get in the game by attending the Friedens Ministry Fair on Sunday, May 23, following the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services in Fellowship Hall. Check out all the opportunities for service at Friedens, meet ministry team members, find out what skills and how much time is required and then get involved by signing up with the ministry of your choice and learn how you can put your God-given talents into action.
Blaze to Heat Up this Summer
Friedens's teen group, Blaze, has a full slate ready for this summer, from June 13 through Aug. 22. This includes Sunday school from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.; Sunday night praise and prayer from 7 to 8 p.m.; Jr. high girl's Bible study from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays; High school Bible study and discipleship from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays; and Jr. high guys Bible study from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays. All events meet at the church. Stay tuned for more special events.
Prayer Time…
… Is anytime. As Steven Curtis Chapman writes: "Let us pray, let us pray, everywhere in every way, every moment of the day, it is the right time. Let us pray without end and when we finish start again, like breathing out and breathing in, let us pray." There are four current opportunities to exercise your prayer life with others in the Friedens family: Call the HEARTS Line at (262) 284-7007 for current prayer needs (if you have a request to add to the HEARTS Line, call the church office); send an e-mail to Deb Bendt to get your request on an e-mail prayer chain or to be added to the list of recipients; attend the "40 Days" prayer group at 9:30 a.m. in Pastor Don's office; join the Thursday prayer group at 6:30 a.m. in Pastor Mark's office.
Are We Truly United?
Billy Graham once called 11 a.m. on Sunday the most-segregated hour in the U.S. We have churches for old people, young people, black people, white people, Asian people, people with kids, without kids and everything in between, beyond and behind. Is that why Jesus died? Is that what it's going to look like in heaven? "After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing before the throne in front of the Lamb" (Revelation 7:9). Read more
'Unchurched' Nearly Doubles
The number of people who do not attend church has nearly doubled since 1991, far outpacing adult population growth in the U.S., according to new research by the Barna Research Group. The number of adults who do not attend church has nearly doubled, rising from 39 million to 75 million a 92% percent increase. According to the survey, men dominate the ranks of the unchurched. The unchurched are more likely to be men, single and never married. Also, while about half of those who attend church have accepted Christ as Savior, one-sixth of the unchurched have done so as well.
