You Have All God's Attention
"I love God because he listened to me, listened as I begged for mercy. He listened so intently as I laid out my case before him." So David wrote in Psalm 116:1-2. Do you realize that God listens intently to you when you pray to him? He is completely focused on you. Respond in kind to him. Don't give him lazy prayers. Give him your fervent passionate prayers, because he is intent, fervent and passionate about you.
Plan For VBS
Vacation Bible School, for kids 4 years old through 5th grade, isn't until the week of June 14, but you should start making plans now. Register by May 24 and get a free iron-on T-shirt transfer. This year's theme is "Lava Lava Island: Where Jesus' Love Flows." It's a fun time for all involved and children don't have to be members of Friedens to enroll. Registration is free. Volunteers and supplies are still needed too. Call Pam Landon at 284-5916 or Geralyn Esselmann at 284-9598 for more information. VBS registration tables will be set up after the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services next Sunday.
High School Guys Camp Out
The high school guys will be camping out at Jesse and Nancy Mueller's place in the Town of Grafton on Saturday May 22. A fun time, including all the 'smores you can eat, is guaranteed. Call the Muellers at 376-9588 or Pastor Kato for more info.
Become Transformed
How do you become spiritually transformed? By reading self-help books? Making New Year's resolutions? Turning a new leaf? "No one can transform themselves. Any self-effort to transform ourselves is temporary, hard to maintain, and a recipe destined to result in failure. True transformation can only come from the Lord." Read more.
No Need for God?
How do you explain spiritual neediness to the person who is self-satisfied?
Help with the Tough Passages
There are some passages of Scripture that are difficult to understand, especially without the help of knowing historical context, language nuances, and other factors. InterVarsity Press has a section of their website dedicated to helping a student of the Bible come to grips with some of these passages. Read Hard Saying of the Day a daily excerpt from one of their reference books, "Hard Sayings of the Bible."
The Five-Finger Prayer Plan
Have trouble organizing your prayers, especially when you're on the run or don't have a prayer list handy. One helpful tip is to use the "Five-Finger Prayer Plan." Your thumb represents those closest to you, like your family and loved ones; your first finger is for those who help point you in the right direction, such as your pastors and teachers; the index finger represents those in position of high power, like government officials; the fourth finger is for those who are weak, sick, frail and otherwise in need; and your pinkie finger, the last and smallest, represents yourself. Read this and other tips.
