Be an Encourager
There are some things God tells us we should never do. There are things He says we should do as often as possible. And there are things He commands us to do daily or on a continuous basis, no excuses. The last category includes prayer ("Pray continuously" (I Thess. 5:17), and "Encourage one another" (Hebrews 3:13). That's because everyone can use a prayer and a word of encouragement (literally "fill with courage") to help them meet the challenges they face every day. All it takes to fulfill both commands is a few moments to lift a prayer to God, to utter a kind word, to send a note or e-mail, or make a phone call. If you need help to know who to pray for and encourage, check this Sunday's bulletin for lists of those with health issues, in nursing homes or who have other needs and those celebrating birthdays or anniversaries. Also, take a moment after worship to meet someone new and make a new friend -- a new someone to pray for and encourage.
Be a Tree Donor
A bronze, brass and acrylic tree has been mounted on the west wall of Memorial Hall to help mark Friedens' 150th anniversary. Each leaf of the tree will be engraved according to the desires of those who donate $250 or more to the 150th Anniversary Fund. Money collected will be used to help defray special events expenses and fund outreach projects. The $250 donations may be made in installments. For more information, contact Senior members of the Anniversary Committee Deb Bendt, Alice Rabenhorst, Doris Schlenvogt, Roy DeSimone, Nancy Pipkorn or Sue Voll.

Oppressive to Women?
Early Christians taught a spiritual unity that offset the harshness of Roman law, in which women were considered non-citizens with no legal rights. Inequality was everywhere and women were regarded as little more than property. The Scriptures teach, however, that women are co-heirs in Christ. Far from being anti-liberation, as feminists like to portray Scripture, the Bible teaches just the opposite. In fact, commands to submit to authority apply to men as well. Unfortunately, unbelieving male-dominated culture has historically gotten in the way of this truth. In other words, "Traditional Christian thinking is not the same thing as biblical thinking about women." One Year Later, Iraqi Christians Rejoice
After years of oppression, the Christian church in Iraq has come out from hiding and is experiencing explosive growth. One year after Operation Iraqi Freedom, the church's challenge is not enduring persecution from Saddam's regime, but a lack of leaders, Christian materials, and facilities to accommodate the burgeoning numbers of people wanting to practice their newfound freedom of religion.
