Pray for the Church

There's a prayer for a local church, like Friedens, recorded in Scripture. It's by the Apostle Paul for the church in Colossae and found in Colossians 1:9-12 – "We have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the Kingdom of light."

Congratulations

Mark and Donna Yellen have a new family member, Payton Grace Yellen. She was born at 11:26 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb 10th, weighing in at 7 pounds, 9 ounces and 20 inches long.

Contemporary Worship Service this Saturday

A special once-a-month Saturday worship time will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21. It is especially for those who can't make a Sunday service due to work schedule conflicts. It will be informal and the message will be the same as the Sunday morning message the next day. Nursery care is not available right now. If you're interested in helping organize a Saturday evening nursery, call Lori Kelly at 284-1753.

Tasty Retreat

On the 28th, the ladies of Friedens will take a field trip for a tour of the offices of the cooking magazine "Taste of Home" in Greendale. A carpool will leave at 9 a.m. from the church parking lot. You'll be able to meet the magazine staff, learn about the magazines and other products, see the busy recipe test kitchen and shop at its Country Store Outlet. The tour is free but a love offering will be collected to offset driving expenses. An optional lunch will be held at Heinemann's restaurant.

Women's Bible Study

The Women's Bible Study meets at 9:30 a.m. this Thursday. The group normally meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. Call Marci Ferrell at 375-1009 for more information. Everyone is welcome; bring a friend.

Adult Sunday Classes

A study of the Book of Revelation will begin at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday between worship services and continue through the month of March. The class will be led by Dan Benson and is an extension of the ongoing New Testament Survey class. Pastor Don will continue his Lifestyle Evangelism class.

Fellowship Dinner

The church's women ministries will hold its Spring Fellowship Dinner on March 28 and will feature a "menu from the past" to mark the church's 150th anniversary. Volunteers – men too – are needed to help organize the event. To volunteer to help cook, set-up, tear down or otherwise serve, contact Sue Voll at 284-2201 or Dorothy Yurske at 284-0896.

Evangelism By Invitation

"Evangelism is a supernatural process. In reality, it is God who brings people to Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. It has never been our cleverness, our techniques, our booklets, or our persuasiveness," writes author and preacher Ross Rohde in the article "Evangelism by Invitation." When we realize that truth, it takes the pressure to convert people off us and puts it on God, where it belongs. Our responsibility in evangelism is to discern when God supernaturally provides opportunities, and then to walk through them.
