No Forgotten Prayers
In the book of Revelation, chapter 8, all of heaven grows silent just before the world is plunged into tribulation. And in that silent moment, an angel comes before the Lord with a golden censer overflowing with the fragrant prayers of the saints, which He has stored up through all the millennia. Sometimes God's answers to our prayers are a long time coming, and sometimes they aren't the answers we at first would like to hear. But we can be confident that God does indeed hear our prayers and that he does not forget them. "Can a woman forget her nursing child And have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you." (Isaiah 49:15).
Have A Heart
Speaking of prayers, we all need one. If you'd like to share your prayer request with others, get it on the Friedens HEARTS Line by calling the church at (262) 284-2471. You'll find a box there where you can enter your prayer request. You also can e-mail the church at frchurch@sbc.net. To hear those prayer requests, call the HEARTS Line at (262) 284-7007. It is updated daily. Another way of finding out what and who to pray for is to simply ask someone, "Can I pray for you?" Try it, because God hears prayer.
Missions: Looking at the Big Picture
Are you interested in missions around the world and close to home? Then get involved with the Friedens Missions Committee. The committee will meet at 7 p.m. Monday here at the church. More than 12% of all funds received by Friedens goes to missions. Last year that meant nearly $28,000 was earmarked for the Lord's work outside of Port Washington. The Contemporary Worship Planning Committee will be meeting at the same time, by the way. If you want to be involved in plans for a Saturday night contemporary worship service, that's the place to be.
Bible Study News
Don't forget, the High School Bible Study meets at the church now, at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Call Doug and Marci Ferrell for more info: 375-1009. The Men's Bible Fellowship gets together at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Call Mike Bendt for more information, 284-5499. The Women's Bible Fellowship meets at 9:30 a.m. on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month (that would include this Thursday) at the church. Call Marci Ferrell for more info.
Help Wanted
Greeters at the church's front doors are needed. If you have a hand to shake and a smile to share, call Eileen Ellefson at 284-3505. If you have a heart to serve but don't know where you're most needed, give a holler to Pastor Don.
Share the Life with 'Passion'
Campus Crusade for Christ has prepared a website around Mel Gibson's film, "The Passion of the Christ." On it you can see a trailer of the film, find ideas on how to use it as an evangelism tool and join a prayer chain. Go to: http://www.sharethelife.com. In addition, stay tuned for information on how Friedens plans on reaching out to those whose interest in knowing the Savior will be raised because of the film. You also can find a collection of "Passion"-related online resources at http://ifc.gospelcom.net/entertainment/419/.
Help and Healing
Have you or someone you know had an abortion and are now struggling with conflicted emotions over the decision? Or maybe you know someone considering an abortion? Project Grace is an abortion-recovery ministry that wants to help. There is information on support groups, testimonies of women, a "Post-Abortion Trauma Checklist" and a variety of resources. There's also a music video and free downloadable MP3s by ministry founder Chris Jackman offering hope and encouragement. Go to http://www.gospelcom.net/projectgrace/. In the Milwaukee area, a worthwhile ministry for women considering abortion is CareNet Pregnancy Center. You can find information about this worthwhile ministry on the information table in Friedens' Fellowship Hall or call (414) 962-2212.
Be Supportive
Speaking of worthwhile organizations, you can find some that receive support from Friedens members on the information table in Fellowship Hall. These include Gideons, Milwaukee Rescue Mission, Kidz in the Hood and the Food Pantry. Grab one of their brochures and make them part of your regular, free-will giving habit.
Boundless and Free
It can be tough to find a Christian presence on college campuses. But one website provides a number of quality articles and other information from a Christian viewpoint by, for and about Christian college students. Current articles include how to think like a Christian, a top 10 list of on-campus Christian organizations, uncovering the worldviews revealed in movies and opening our eyes to how God works in our lives. A great site for current college students or those planning on attending college soon. Go to http://www.boundless.org.
