Volunteers Needed
Friedens can expect a crowded church this Christmas season, which means volunteers are needed to help make visitors welcome. Needs include:
- Greeters at the church doors before each service talk to Pastor Don.
- People interested in helping with the information table or the welcome center, or serving food and drink after each service. Talk to Pastor Don.
- Helping out in the nursery. Call Lori Kelly, 284-1753.
- Helping with Awana and Sunday School. Talk to Sue Voll or Pastor Mark Kato.
Make A Difference
A number of groups need our help this holiday season, either financially or by volunteering. Many members of Friedens already make it a regular practice of contributing to several area non-profit agencies. These include the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, CareNet Pregnancy Center, the Salvation Army, Gideons, the Food Pantry, Interfaith Caregivers and Kids 'N' The Hood. You can find more information about these groups by visiting the information table in Fellowship Hall and taking home one of their brochures.
Making 'Spiritual Champions'
In his new book, "Transforming Your Children Into Spiritual Champions," researcher George Barna says that after years of research, he found:
- A person's moral foundations are in place by age 9.
- A person's response to Jesus Christ's life, death and resurrection is usually determined by the time they reach 18.
- Most Americans make a lasting determination about the significance of Christ by age 12.
- For most people, spiritual beliefs are irrevocably formed when they are pre-teens. In essence, what you believe by the time you are 13 is what you will die believing," Barna writes.
- More than 80% church leaders today were involved ministry to children before they reached age 13, implying that tomorrow's church leaders are those active in church programs today.

Why Johnny Can't Share His Faith
Is Bible verse memorization a forgotten art? It appears so. Dave Cook believes that we have forgotten the value of scripture memorization. His article "Why Johnny Can't Share His Faith" focuses on new ways of doing this and why it is so important, not just for us, but for those we love: http://www.heartlight.org/articles/200311/20031105_sharefaith.html.
Where Does Spam Come From?
Mainly from your email address posted online, according to recent research. This detailed study shows how your email address can be grabbed, and how to avoid it. For situations where you need to post your address online (bulletin boards, etc) it is wise to create a separate address (e.g. Yahoo) which you can abandon if it gets too much spam. For more info, go to: http://www.cdt.org/speech/spam/030319spamreport.shtml.
So What Did Jesus Do?
It's popular nowadays to ask ourselves "What Would Jesus Do?" Perhaps we should study what He really did do: http://www.christianitytoday.com/cr/2003/005/12.40.html.
