Christmas Programs are Coming
Children in Sunday School and other Friedens youth programs are already beginning to gear up for the holiday festivities by practicing for Christmas musicals, carol singing and other events. If your children haven't been involved with those programs yet, now is a great time to get them in there. Make this Christmas season a special one for your family by getting involved. For more information, call the church office at 284-2471 or talk to Pastor Mark Voll or Pastor Mark Kato.
You Can Help
Speaking of the holidays, they're a sad time to be alone and in need. If you 'd like to make the season a little brighter for those less fortunate than yourself, volunteer to help Interfaith Caregivers, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission or donate food to the Food Pantry. And monetary donations are always welcome, of course. You can find more information on those and other organizations supported by the Friedens Family by stopping by the information table. Speaking of helping, the Blaze group is going to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission on Saturday, Nov. 8. Meet in the church parking lot at 3:15 p.m., returning at 8 p.m. Call Pastor Mark Kato for more info.
Don't Forget
A seminar for those considering membership at Friedens will be held from 9 to noon Saturday, Nov. 8. Call ahead to register at 284-2471, so materials can be made ready. Nursery is available too.
Wanted: Servants Hearts
- People who like toddlers and infants or at least can handle them for an hour at a time are needed to help man the nursery every other month or so or whenever you're available. Call Lori Kelly, 284-1753.
- Volunteers are needed to man committees for 2004. These include the Budget Committee, Nominating Committee and Audit Committee. You can find a form in Sunday's bulletin or call the church office.
Pray For Muslims
Oct. 26 marked the beginning of Ramadan -- a month-long period of fasting in the Muslim world. For Christians, it's a perfect opportunity to pray for Muslims worldwide. One web site that can help is Youth with a Mission's 30 Days Muslim Prayer Focus at http://www.ywam.org/prayer/30daysmuslim.html.
For Parents And Teens
Speaking of 30-day challenges, how about parents and teens having devotions together? Focus on the Family has designed "Fuel," a 30-day devotional series for teens and parents. Ten minutes long, the "Fuel" devotionals include stories, discussion questions, and life application to help parents and teens to connect spiritually. Visit the "Fuel" site and begin your "devo" journey now! Meet "reality Web families" and read journals from families who've successfully taken the challenge. Find instructions on getting started, info on prizes for teens and a "Parents' Place" with great articles to help parents connect with their teens for Christ. "Fuel" can be found at http://www.family.org/fuel/.
Reality TV, Missionary Style
Reality TV, Missionary Style Growing tired of watching desperate contestants slog through one degrading activity after another in the name of "reality television?" "Travel the Road" focuses on the travels and adventures of two missionaries as they traverse the globe, from Ethiopia to Papua New Guinea. "Travel the Road" promises all the excitement of the "other" reality shows, but with a lot more spiritual insight. You can find it at http://www.traveltheroad.com/.
Are You Equipped To Defend Your Faith?
If you're a Christian, chances are you know what you believe and you've found meaning and truth in those beliefs. But how can you effectively share those beliefs with people who don't understand them or, even worse, who mock and deride them? Presenting the faith in a clear and understandable manner has always been the greatest challenge faced by Christian apologists. "Defending Your Faith" by R.C. Sproul, looks thoroughly at the nerve-wracking but necessary call to stand as a witness for Christ. http://www.awayofunderstanding.com/awou2.html.
'Man In Black' Gone To The Light
Johnny Cash, who recently passed away, was a flawed human being who found forgiveness in Jesus Christ. A memorial to him, with links to other articles about his faith, can be found at http://ifc.gospelcom.net/entertainment/172/. You also can see his last, award-winning video performing the haunting anti-drug song "Hurt," at http://www.nme.com/features/104451.htm.
