Jews For Jesus Are Coming

Alan Bond of Jews for Jesus, a San Francisco-based group, will speak on "Jesus in the Old Testament" at both Friedens worship services on Nov. 9. This will be a great opportunity to learn about the Messianic Jewish movement, Jews who have come to believe that Jesus is indeed the promised Messiah. Invite curious friends and neighbors. Another opportunity to learn about how Jesus is revealed in the Old Testament is to get in on the "Old Testament Survey" class held each Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m. between services. It's held in the old study room downstairs. For more information on the class, call Dan Benson at 268-0755.

Remember, Membership Seminar

A membership seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 1 at the church. This is a great opportunity if you are new to Friedens to get information on the church and its activities. Attending the seminar does not obligate you to become a member. If you already are a member, perhaps you know someone who wants to get better acquainted with the Friedens family. Be sure to invite them. Pre-registration is requested so materials can be made ready. Call the church office for more info.

Wazzup?

Some upcoming events at Friedens:

And Don't Forget

Prayer time every Thursday at 6:30 a.m. in Pastor Mark's office; Christian Recovery Small Group, 8 p.m. every Tuesday (Call Lee and Dyane Sloane, 387-1526); and Thursday morning women's Bible Study, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. (Call Marci Ferrell).

Calling All Volunteers

There is always a need for volunteers in every area of ministry and in every segment of our community. The more people who give of their time, the lighter the load on everyone and the greater impact on those whom we serve. Too many of us involve our children (and ourselves) in commitments that lack spiritual payoff. Here's a poem that subtly makes the point.

Wanted!

I saw a wanted poster
at the church the other day.
It left me with a feeling
that just wouldn't go away.
It listed opportunities
for tithing of my time.
Like helping toddlers learn to pray
through finger plays and rhymes.
Like mentoring some teenagers
or opening my home
or taking widows out to eat
so they won't dine alone.
Like teaching in the Sunday school
or singing in the choir,
or going on a missions trip
with hammers, nails and pliers.
The poster made me contemplate
the ways I fill my week.
It caused me to review in prayer
the schedule that I keep.
Like driving kids to soccer,
then to swim team or ballet,
to ballgames every weekend
and practice everyday.
By working with the PTA
and helping at the club,
I have no time to serve at church
and that is well the rub.
Although I am quite busy now,
I really must confess.
I'm not convinced that what I do
is what God wants to bless.
I kind of think He wants me
to reduce my frantic pace,
so I can volunteer at church
and be a means of grace.

Thank A Pastor

Friedens has added two pastors in recent months, just in time to triple our fun for Pastor Appreciation Month this October. Take some time to reflect on how your life and spiritual walk have been blessed by their words and deeds. Need some ideas on how to show your appreciation for Pastor Mark, Pastor Don and Pastor Mark the Second? Check out this website: http://www.case-studies.com/articles/pastor_appreciation2.htm.

International Focus on Evangelism and Missions

Friedens members John Schuette and Gary Schlenvogt recently returned from a thrilling short-term mission trip to Romania. If you'd like to learn more about what God is doing in Romania and other countries, log onto the Religion Journal website at http://www.religionjournal.com/. Religion Journal is a Christian Internet news service that focuses on international missions news. In the meantime, pray for Romania and the rest of Europe, where 1% or less of the population claim to be evangelical Christian.
