FriedensNotes
Week of August 18, 2003
The "TEAM" is coming together!…
The Search Committee and Church Council unanimously recommend Mark Kato be affirmed as our church's Associate Pastor for Youth & Children's Ministries. God has been so good to guide and direct the work of the Search Committee. He has answered every prayer and has confirmed His choice. The Congregation will be asked to add their affirmation to what the church's leadership believes be God's approval of Mark Kato for our ministry team. PLEASE make a point of meeting, greeting and welcoming Mark, Cathy and Hannah as soon as they join the pastoral team in early September. And please join us in a prayer of thanksgiving for God's provision and providence. Pastor Mark

Don't Forget To Vote
After the Saturday and Sunday services this weekend, members will have the opportunity to vote whether to appoint Mark Kato as Friedens' new Associate Pastor for Youth & Children's Ministries.
Can You Be of Service?
The church has boxes and files filled with stuff that is worth saving, displaying, preserving and some that is not. Do you have time to help sort through it? Call Pastor Mark or Pastor Don at the church if you can. It's a project that needs to be done in preparation for the church's 150th anniversary.
While we're talking about serving, the Food Pantry needs cereal, soup, school supplies, canned corn, macaroni and cheese, syrup, pancake mix, bathroom tissue and paper grocery bags. Drop them off in the cart in the church lobby.
Wet and Mild
Baptism is a public declaration of one's belief and reliance on the redeeming work of Christ. It symbolizes the death of the old sinful self and the rising of a new creation. Some are going to make that public proclamation on August 31 at the Port Washington community pool following the Sunday worship service. How about you? Have you made that declaration. If not, talk to Pastor Mark or Pastor Don.
Calling All Teachers
This Sunday there will be a luncheon in Fellowship Hall for first quarter Sunday School and adult education teachers, small group leaders and their families. No need to sign up. Just show up.
Online Evangelistic Kids Game
"King's Call" is an online evangelistic children's adventure game - a journey through the fantasy world of Kaleo and learning along the way about life, choices, and what's really important. It's a project of CBH Ministries.
On Your Knees
The average prayer meeting, research shows, is about an hour. How much longer do you think the world's longest prayer meeting lasted? It began August 27, 1727, in Herrnhut, Germany, when Moravians under Count von Zinzendorf commenced an around-the-clock prayer chain that lasted more than 100 years!
Look Who's Talking
Do you know what people talk about during the week? A national survey by the Barna Research group shows that:
- Four out of ten adults discuss religious beliefs or spiritual issues during a typical week.
- Of the seven topics explored, religion/spirituality was the least common topic of conversation.
- People are more likely to discuss what they saw in a movie or television show than any other topic measured in the survey.
- The adults most likely to discuss religious matters were some of the least expected, such as Baby Boomers and college graduates.
