A Note from Pastor Mark

"We Have Seen the Risen Lord" is the title of the choir's anthem this Easter Sunday and the theme for my Easter messages. We see Him when our eyes are opened by faith to His suffering on our behalf. We see Him when we confront our need for forgiveness and grace. We see Him when we look for and find a multitude of ways God has answered prayer in our lives. We see Him when we face our brokenness and His power to heal us and bring us into a new relationship with God the Father. We see Him when we look at our broken sanctuary put back together so beautifully. Do you see Him? Do you see the Risen Lord at work in your life?

Easter Week Services

Maundy Thursday worship services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and Good Friday services will be held in conjunction with Grand United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Friday at Friedens. There will be three services on Easter Sunday at 7, 9 and 10:30 a.m. A full breakfast will be served in Fellowship Hall from 8 to 9 a.m. and a continental breakfast after the second and third services. Invite a friend!

VBS? Oh Yes!

Won't be long and Friedens will be holding its popular Vacation Bible School in June. Dozens of children from throughout the community attend it — and not just children from Friedens families. Volunteers are needed. If you can volunteer any time at all as a helper, teacher or a "do whatever-er", call the church office at 284-2471 and sign up.

Driven to Serve

Van drivers are still needed to offer rides to church for those without transportation. Please call Ray Schwinn at 284-5464 or Dan Benson at 268-0755.

Happy, Happy, Happy

Wish a happy birthday to Doris Seyfert, Megan Joosse, Lauren Bendt, Megan Schlenvogt and Joanne Gundrum. And a happy anniversary to Gary and Doris Schlenvogt, Don and Judy Schulze and Tom and Karmon Schuh.

An Encouraging Word

Give one to the Sunday school teachers, nursery caregivers and other faithful church servants.

God In A War Zone

An Army chaplain describes what it's like being a Christian in Iraq in this article: Chaplains Prepare for Easter in Nontraditional Atmosphere.

Called To Serve

The call to Christ is the call to serve. Sometimes our servanthood is not appreciated; other times we serve when no one notices. Nevertheless, we are called to serve. Here are some sayings to keep close to your heart:

Influential or Ignored?

When asked, "What book has most influenced your life?" in a recent Library of Congress survey, respondents awarded the Bible the top position. But only 34% of American Christians read God's Word on their own during the week, and of that group, only 13 percent claim to read it daily. "Americans revere the Bible," says pollster George Gallup, Jr., "but, by and large, they don't read it."

Ten Reasons Why I Never Wash

  1. I was forced to as a child.
  2. People who wash are hypocrites - they think they are cleaner than everybody else.
  3. There are so many different kinds of soap, I can't decide which one is best.
  4. I used to wash, but I got bored and stopped.
  5. I wash only on special occasions, like Christmas and Easter.
  6. None of my friends wash.
  7. I'll start washing when I get older and dirtier.
  8. I can't spare the time.
  9. The bathroom is never warm enough in winter or cool enough in summer.
  10. People who make soap are only after your money.
