Building Committee Update
November 3, 2002
The lower level rooms (beneath the sanctuary) are being sealed and painted. The youth room and old kitchen will receive new flooring. We hope to be able to use these much- needed rooms in the next couple of weeks.
The stained glass windows have been removed and will be repaired/recreated at the Oakbrook-Esser studios.
With the adoption of the renovation plan last Sunday night, more work is getting started and the Building Committee and Council will have frequent meetings to stay on top of the work and make decisions within the scope of the approved plans and budget.
To summarize last Sunday night's special congregational meeting: the plan presented for renovation was overwhelmingly approved. The sanctuary will be turned to face east new east wall featuring beautiful arches, oak woodwork and decorative organ pipes will carryover the warmth and tradition of the pre-fire sanctuary. A larger chancel area will provide flexibility and space for worship team, choir, organ, piano as well as special programs, funeral visitations, weddings, etc. New congregational seating will also enhance comfort and flexibility. Lighting and sound will be improved. Storage will be expanded. Accessibility for the physically challenged is also improved. It is anticipated that with careful oversight and planning, this renovation can be done within the scope of the insurance settlement.
In addition, and using separate existing funds, those present for the meeting approved the installation of air-conditioning in the renovated sanctuary at a cost of about $34,000.00.
Thanks to those from the Building Committee and Council who did outstanding presentations at the meeting. Thanks to all those who attended and shared their questions, comments and suggestions.
The congregation will continue to be kept updated and informed concerning progress.
The goal for completion of the project is early April (Palm Sunday? Easter?)
