Adoption...Foster Care...Orphan Care

In 2010, Forever Families began as a fundraiser to assist local families in their adoption journey.  Recognizing that 99% of the world's orphans will never be adopted, Forever Families also began supporting orphan-care ministries in Ethiopia, China, Haiti, and Honduras.

In 2011, Forever Families expanded its scope with an Adoption 101 workshop.  This grew into the annual Adoption Connection event, which had over 125 participants in 2017!  Forever Families also coordinates adoption support groups, because we recognize that the challenges of adoption don't end when the child comes home to their forever family.

Since 2010, Forever Families has raised over $100,000, and 100% of the proceeds go to support adoption and orphan care.  Forever Families has distributed over 25 adoption grants and is dedicated to supporting families in all stages of the adoption journey, whether they are considering adoption, are currently in the process of adopting, or have adopted children in their home (or out of the home) and are looking for support, camaraderie, and resources.

Super Saturday

Super Saturday is Forever Families' primary fundraiser and is hosted at Friedens Church each September.  This event includes a 5K Run/Walk, 2K Walk, "Tot Trot," Silent Auction, and Bake Sale. It draws people from throughout southeastern Wisconsin and is an inspiring way to make a lasting difference in a child's life.

Super Saturday is on September 23, 2017, from 9:00am-noon at Friedens Church.

Adoption Connection

Adoption Connection takes place each June and is for anyone who is interested in adopting, is in the adoption process, has adopted or foster children in the home, or anyone else who would like to learn about adoption and the unique aspects of parenting adopted children.

Adoption Connection includes:

  • A potluck meal for the entire family, which provides a great opportunity to connect with other adoptive families.
  • Engaging speakers who will make you laugh (and perhaps shed a few tears) as they equip attendees to navigate the unique challenges of parenting adopted children.
  • Breakout sessions that allow participants to share and dig deeper into specific topics, such as: foster care, parenting older adoptive children, working with schools through IEPs and service plans, parenting transracially, and more.
  • Childcare for ages 0-3, along with a "camp" experience for children over 3, where they will rotate through multiple stations and learn new languages, do crafts, play games, and have fun with other children who have adoption in their family's story.

What people have said about Adoption Connection:

  • "Had an amazing time at the Adoption Connection event tonight!  Well worth the drive, longs of new connections and knowledge :)."
  • "Amazing event!"
  • "This was our first time attending and it was wonderful!  What a gem Friedens is to our community!  Thank you...can't wait to connect more!"

The next Adoption Connection will be in June 2018.

Finances can be a major hurdle for families looking to adopt.  Therefore, one of the primary purposes of Forever Families is to provide financial grants to help families fund their adoption process. If you are interested in applying for a Forever Families grant, please download an application below. The Grant Selection Committee reviews applications at least once per quarter, at which time applicants will be notified about the outcome of their application. Priority is given to families in southeastern Wisconsin.

Thank you to Forever Families' sponsors and donors!

To fund adoption grants and the other aspects of Forever Families' ministry, we depend on the generous support of many community partners.  "Sponsors" are financial partners with Forever Families, and there are over 100 other businesses that contribute to the silent auction.  In addition, we are thankful for the hundreds of people who participate in Super Saturday, which enables Forever Families to help more children become a part of a "forever family."

Friedens' Heritage of Adoption & Foster Care

Many people look at the success of Forever Families and wonder how we got to where we are.  Well, the story goes back much further than 2010, which is when Forever Families officially began.  For several decades, God has been working in Friedens Church to build a culture

that values adoption, foster care, and orphan care.  For instance:

  • Pastor Brandon is the third straight Senior Pastor of Friedens whose family has adopted children (these pastorates date back to the 1960s).
  • There are at least 20 families currently involved at Friedens who have adoption and/or foster care as part of their family's story.
  • Families at Friedens have been active in foster care since the 1970s; one family in particular has provided foster care for over 100 children.  This passion for foster care has been contagious, and altogether, Friedens families have fostered over 170 children!
As you can see, the seeds for Forever Families have been growing for decades, and we're excited to see what God continues to do through the Forever Families ministry - not only to help create forever families through adoption, and not only to help children in need both locally and globally, but also to help people experience adoption into God's "forever family" through faith in Jesus (John 1:12).
