Thank you for checking out the "Friedens family"!

Although we are diverse in terms of age, spiritual background, and family demographics, we are united by our desire to grow as followers of Jesus.  I feel very blessed to be part of such a loving, united church family.  We don't take this love and unity for granted, because we know that selfishness, bitterness, and gossip can undermine any church's vitality.  Yet we are proactive and intentional to care practically for one another, to "major on the majors," and to treat everyone with humility and respect.  I also value that the Friedens family is "down-to-earth"; we are normal people who deal with real-life challenges, yet we strive to "carry one another's burdens," forgive others as Christ forgave us,

and grow closer to Him in the process.

I’d enjoy the opportunity to get to know you and help you get connected with the Friedens family.

Please feel free to contact me or call the church if you have any questions.

Friedens' Mission

Making disciples of Jesus through UP-IN-OUT relationships

We strive to fulfill Jesus' call in Matthew 28:18-20 - "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Gospel-Centered

The Gospel is the good news that, through Jesus, God has made a way for us to be fully redeemed.  Although we are more sinful and broken than we can imagine, God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die in our place.  By trusting in Jesus alone to reconcile us with God, we can be redeemed and renewed to Christlikeness, with the joyful confidence of eternal life with God.  This good news shapes and empowers Friedens' entire ministry.

Three Key Relationships

Followers of Christ must invest in three relationships in order to grow most fully:  their UP relationship with God (first and foremost), their IN relationship with other Christians (within the "body of Christ"), and their OUT relationship with the surrounding world.  As a church, we strive to equip and inspire people to intentionally invest in each of these three key relationships.

  • A Part of the Evangelical Free Church of America

Friedens is pleased to be part of the Evangelical Free Church of America, which is a movement of nearly 1500 autonomous churches united by a mutual commitment to serve our Lord Jesus Christ with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and obedience to the Word of God.  The term "Evangelical" refers to our commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to the authority of the Bible. The term "Free" refers to the EFCA's form of church government, which assures that each local church has the freedom to govern its own ministry rather than being subject to a controlling body outside of the local church.  At the same time, Friedens values the support, coaching, networking, and resources we receive as part of the EFCA.  For more information, please visit www.efca.org.

  • A Rich Heritage

Friedens Church was founded in 1854 by German immigrants ("Friedens" means "peace" in German).  When a church has such a lengthy history, you can be sure that there are many interesting stories (such as the congregation voting "no" in 1902 to installing electric lights, and a fire in 2002 that required the inside of the sanctuary to be completely rebuilt).  Yet through the decades, Friedens has remained faithful to Jesus and the Bible.  We rejoice at all God is doing in our midst today, and we look to the future with eager anticipation.

  • Making a Difference in the World

We recognize that we are "blessed to be a blessing."  Therefore, we seek to bless the people of our community (and beyond) through Christ-centered love.  We do this in a variety of ways, including:  local outreach projects in the Port Washington community, active support of eleven missionaries throughout the world, the Forever Families ministry, and, most importantly, mobilizing the Friedens family to serve as "backyard missionaries" who embody the love of Jesus in their everyday lives.
